Narratives in music making: Musical storytelling and song writing
Wednesday 9 December 2020
1000 – 1300 & 1400 – 1700
(Online workshop)
Led by Abimaro Gunnell and guest leader Aga Serugo-Lugo
This session explores narrative-based creative music making, musical storytelling and song writing techniques through practical group composition and improvisation activities. The session will guide you through songs and rounds which can be used for vocal warm-ups, and to develop group song learning, and you will try a range of approaches to song writing for working with groups aged 11+.
In the morning session, Abimaro and Sam will introduce a repertoire of warm-ups and songs. The group will then move on to create a joint chorus and will be taken through a number of songwriting tools. This will be followed by some time for independent devising and group reflection on learnings encountered along the way.
In the afternoon, Aga will lead the group to explore group composition through creating musical soundscapes and writing an on-the-spot mini-opera. The very end of the session will offer an opportunity to reflect, ask questions and discuss the content of the day with both Abimaro and Aga.
