Susie is an arts policy advisor at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which she combines with a career as a freelance cellist.

Predominantly a session musician, she has worked with a wide range of artists including Biffy Clyro, Bombay Bicycle Club, Dizzee Rascal and Little Mix, performing at venues from the Royal Albert Hall to the BBC Live Lounge (and even one of the main stages at Glastonbury – a life highlight!).

Susie previously worked on music education policy at the Department for Education, and before that taught music in schools and Early Years centres across Tower Hamlets, as well as volunteering with a variety of arts charities including Spitalfields’ Skills Lab and Trainee Trustee programmes.

A fun fact

As a child, I wanted to be a fairy or a solicitor – an early indication of my commitment to a combined career.

Favourite place?

London! I really do think it’s the best city in the world. I love the hidden bits of history, the music scene, the arts and culture, the parks, the pubs and even the public transport on a good day…
