We’re delighted to share that Spitalfields Music are participating in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge to raise funds for our youth choir, New Young Voice Collective (New YVC).
New Young Voice Collective is a non-auditioned youth choir based in Newham, London, led by Artistic Director Naveen Arles, for young people aged 11-25. Formed in 2013, they sing a programme of music with a clear representation of excellence, values of diversity, inclusion and social responsibility.
We know from years of experience that group music making can change peoples’ lives for the better, with our evaluation framework demonstrating this time and time again. Group singing has been scientifically proven to quickly improve social bonds and isolation, and to have substantial benefits in aiding the recovery of those with mental health problems and upon overall wellbeing. All of this contributes towards improved literacy, language and communication skills, therefore improving overall educational attainment.
Former choir members who have gone on to forge successful performing careers are currently touring with Dua Lipa and working on ABBA Voyage and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
From 29 November – 6 December we are taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, aiming to raise £30,000 to ensure that we can keep the choir going in 2023. During this period you can double your donation via the Big Give website. So if you give £5, we will receive £10, thanks to some amazing individuals and the Childhood Trust who have pledged £15,000 in order to double donations. Without this support, we may not be able to continue the choir in its full capacity beyond December 2022, meaning that our participants will miss out on this opportunity.
