Our Trainee Music Leader Scheme is open for applications

We are pleased to announce that our 2024/25 Trainee Music Leader Scheme is now open for applications!

Our flagship scheme is helping to build the next generation of music leaders. But what exactly is a music leader and what do they do?

Music Leaders run creative music workshops in the community. Working with people of all ages, and from all walks of life, they bring music into settings such as schools, care homes, prisons, and other spaces in the community. They use music to encourage and support creative expression, instilling wellbeing and confidence in the groups they work with. For example, in our organisation, Music Leaders have recently run Music and Mindfulness sessions in local schools and led large groups of students in group singing. Music leaders can work in any genre, and play any instrument.

Our Trainee Music Leader Scheme runs from September 2024 – June 2025. It’s a paid, practical training course for musicians from across the country, working in all genres. We’re partnering with Academy of St Martin in the Fields, BBC Proms, London Orchestras and Choirs, Britten Pears Arts ,and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, who’ll be hosting a trainee alongside Spitalfields Music this year.

Trainees will have the opportunity to develop their music leadership skills through hands-on experience and training, and learn from experienced music leaders in a supportive professional environment.
