Q&A with Mara Carlyle

Posted on

With Spitalfields Music Festival 2017 just around the corner we’ve been catching up with the artists and ensembles involved to find out about what to expect at their performances and what inspires them to create.

Here’s singer Mara Carlyle talking about her involvement in the festival…

What’s your involvement in the festival?

I’m arranging and performing a song from the Dicheterliebe for Schumann Street with my dear friend/collaborator/viol wizard Liam Byrne.

What can audiences expect from your performance in three words?

Don’t know yet!

How do you define the music you create?

It’s music that’s hard to describe but easy to listen to.

Other than the event you’re involved in, which Spitalfields Music Festival event are you looking forward to the most?

ooh the House of Monteverdi

Best gig you’ve ever seen?

Lhasa de Sela at Islington Academy in 2005. It was an intensely musical, magical, emotional experience and it changed the way I thought and felt about performing and arranging. She was such an extraordinary musician, I feel so lucky to have seen her play live.

Mara Carlyle will perform perform alongside Liam Byrne in one of 16 rooms of artists at Schumann Street Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 December, 5 & 7.30pm. Book Now!
