Brick Lane is a street known by most Londoners – arguably one of the most famous streets in the Capital. This tour will enable us to discover what makes it so special, but also so controversial. Over the centuries, Brick Lane has attracted many people escaping from persecution and poverty, including Huguenots, Chinese, Jews and Bangladeshis. We’ll hear their stories and positive impacts on the area by exploring the streets where they lived, worked and prayed. This is a story of breweries, weaving and also a good curry! But the future of the area has now become a battlefield, where locals are making a stand against gentrification and the loss of their own history: a fight that is continuing, and is yet to be won.
