Vocal ensemble The Sixteen return to the glorious surroundings of Hawksmoor’s Christ Church Spitalfields. They explore the intimate relationship between poetry and music in a programme of a cappella English works from across the centuries. Resounding harmonies are matched with powerful texts from a wide array of writers.
Enjoy William Harris’s sensitive setting of Elizabeth poet Edmund Spenser’s Faire is the heaven, Benjamin Britten and WH Auden’s collaboration Hymn to St Cecilia, and the recently rediscovered anthem by World War I poet and composer Ivor Gurney of Robert Bridges’s Since I believe in God the Father Almighty.
