Ballads were the popular songs of the 17th century. Printed on one sheet and sold for a penny in marketplaces, they told tales of murder, sex, revenge, true love and the supernatural to familiar (and often recycled) melodies.
Joined by vocalist Vivien Ellis, The Carnival Band brings to life a colourful cast of characters through some of the most imaginative and memorable songs and dance tunes of the age fusing the folk and the traditional.
