Purcell arr. Sam Glazer The Fairy Queen
The sparkling world of animals and fairies in a magical forest travels to toddlers in the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham and Newham, spreading some musical fairy dust around libraries and community venues.
The show takes as its starting point one of the best-loved masterpieces of early English music – Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen – and re-imagines it for the youngest of audiences, creating a sensory, sparkling world of music, sights, sounds and textures for 0-2 year-olds to explore, hear and enjoy. Music is provided by young artists from The Sixteen and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
For the first time we take our early years work outside of Tower Hamlets to other East End boroughs as part of a three year touring programme supported by Arts Council England’s strategic touring fund. Alongside the performances we will also run training sessions for library and community centre staff focused on developing skills to create and deliver musical projects for early years participants.
Supported by Arts Council England, Garfield Weston Foundation, Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Youth Music. In partnership with London Borough of Barking & Dagenham and Community Links.
