Mystic, philosopher, artist, scientist and musician: the 12th century Benedictine nun Hildegard of Bingen is a household name. Her soaring and haunting melodies inspire to this day, providing a medieval trance track against which new works by Stevie Wishart, Marcus Davidson, Emily Levy, Tim Young and Laura Moody are juxtaposed to recreate Hildegard’s visions for a 21st century audience.
This collaborative piece of concert-theatre, best viewed at dusk, uses live visuals, text and music to celebrate Hildegard of Bingen’s work as a composer, visionary, and woman. This event launches Voice’s new album Hildegard Portraits on the British independent CD label, SOMM Recordings. Click HERE to pre-order the album and listen to a preview of the music being performed.
