For the first night of the Winter Festival, celebrated countertenor Iestyn Davies and renowned lutenist Elizabeth Kenny invite you to join them in a transformed, candlelit Shoreditch Church for the shimmering of music for voice and lute.

Their handpicked programme touches on works by three ‘English’ composers who were praised as the ‘Orpheus of England’ by their contemporaries following their deaths: John Dowland, Henry Purcell and George Frederic Handel. Across the course of the evening, they take you through Dowland’s gentle melancholy, immortalised in his Flow My Tears, Purcell’s elegant mastery over words and music, and Handel’s dramatic flair demonstrated in his cantata Hendel, non può mia musa, to celebrate the artistry of these three composers.

Running time: 1hr 45min, including a 20min interval

Leila’s Shop bar will be providing refreshments before the performance and during the interval. You can pre-order drinks and light bites with your tickets. View the menu.
