Following years in the pipeline, Spitalfields Music, New YVC, THAMES and Sing Tower Hamlets are joining forces to run a Taster Youth Choir project: Spitalfields Voices – in the Autumn Term of 2023, to encourage talented singers from local secondary schools to join an extra-curricular choir after school and meet and sing with other like-minded and talented young people from their local area.
We want to break down the historic barriers to after-school club attendance and to establish good relationships with parents/carers and students, with the aim of building a core choir cohort from within the borough’s schools. We have invited 50-60 keen singers from Year 7 – 9 in seven Tower Hamlets schools and will be rehearsing with them over the Autumn term. The project will be led by Sing Tower Hamlets Choir Director and THAMES singing tutor Leanne Sedin, supported by NewYVC Choir Director Naveen Arles at all rehearsals. The students will work towards a performance at the end of the Autumn term, in a joint concert with NewYVC and Sing Tower Hamlets. Project funded by THAMES (Tower Hamlets Arts & Music Education Service).
Supported by THAMES, Canary Wharf Communities Fund, Victoria Wood Foundation & Chapman Charitable Trust.
