Phoenix School in Tower Hamlets is a well-established school for students with Special Educational Needs, catering for children with severe language and communication difficulties, whose needs lie within the autistic spectrum.
Each year, over a series of 4 weekly creative sessions, Spitalfields Music’s artistic team works with a group of Phoenix students to create original songs, which they perform to their peers in a school assembly at the end of the project. The projects increase pupils’ confidence and support the development of their communication, language, music and social skills, as well as their ability to express themselves creatively.
This year, the group explored World Music, and created 5 original songs about a group of friends travelling in a hot air balloon, gate-crashing an animal party in Africa…
